SAUGUS – Police found the lights on and patrons still drinking alcohol past closing time at Zaza Restaurant and Nitery, early Sunday.
At approximately 2:03 a.m., a Saugus police officer reported seeing nearly a dozen people inside the establishment located at 114 Broadway.
A small crowd of people were also spotted in the outside, fenced in table area located outside the front doors.
The officer said he walked inside and saw a woman consuming a glass of what appeared to be white wine, and a man drinking a bottle of Budweiser beer.
At that point, an employee alerted the owner, who started telling patrons that they had to leave the bar.
While the owner reportedly told police that he stopped serving alcohol at 1:25 a.m., the officer said there were still patrons drinking alcohol past 2 a.m.
No further information was made available Sunday night.
